86 Monte Carlo Overheats and balloon top rad hose and red glowing manifolds?

My brother has a 350 sbc chevy, stock 350,manifolds,cc quadrajet carb, single cat exhaust system.Latley the car has been giving some problems.Carb was bad so I rebuilt it,plugs, wires, radiator cap were changed .The car seems to overheat and the top radiator hose balloons up,The manifolds get red after wot and idles a little high after wot.It has no thernostat,What do you guys think it is.Bad head gaskett, even tho there are no noticible signs of oil in the water.Or bad cat?I need some advice.

dave is correct, its either timing or,OR bad cat.

Sounds like the thermostat, if no water is coming out of the intake manifold or the heads,it's the thermostat.Be sure and check the cooling lines going to the radiator also.It may also be getting so hot cause the catalytic converter is clogged.Tip,loosen radiator cap while it cool obviously, just so it's on but not tight. This way it will release the steam and it wont run so hot. Until then basically experiment and diagnose the problem.I have a Corvette,i replaced the timing chain, plugs, wires and the ignition for nothing.Turns out it was the converter's,so replace cheap parts 1st.I did all that and it still ran like shhhit, and the whole time and $ it was the converters (catalytic).
I'd suspect the timing is too far advanced, or it's running lean, or you have an airlock somwhere.
