Why does my car smell hot, but not show hot?

My radiator hose was just changed, and after my car is running, it smells hot (maybe like coolant). The temperature gage shows just below the midpoint ( not hot). What could this be?

In changing the hose, you get antifreeze on the engine and exhaust, it burns off and smells for a bit. After your engine cools off, I would check the coolant level, if it's Ok, all is fine. Dean

That's just because its new!!!!!!! Don't worry
If the engine is hotter than normal take back to the shop and have them check to see if something else is wrong. gages can sometimes lie.
with normal engine temps things like new hoses will give of a heat smell for a little while. remember coolant smells sweet and if you think that's what your smelling you can check for another leak and just keep an eye out. make sure the clamps are on tight on the new hose.
Two possibles, when a hose is changed and after filling

system it must be ran long enough to open thermostat,

then level checked again,if not it will still be so low that

the coolant won't touch the temp sensor and read normal

even though it is very hot.

Second, when a system is filled up completly when cold

it will spit some out the first time it is brought up to normal

operating temp due to expandsion,Let cool down check

level in system,if good then the second may be the issue.
