2001 ford ranger 2.3 liter, 4 cylinder manual transmission. temperature gauge rises almost to red?

have changed reservoir cap, changed thermostat which has sensor connected to it, changed clutch fan, changed lower radiator hose and had radiator back flushed. had it tested for bad head gasket or leak to the block . it was no problem. water pump does not leak, could it still be bad ?

Take it to a shop with an infrared heat detector and a scan tool. If, when the temp gage reads hot, and the coolant is flowing through the thermostat, at what temp. is the gage reading? To double check, with a scan tool, they can determine what the PCM (computer) is reading to determine if there is really something wrong with your cooling system or something wrong with your gage/circuit/sensor.

If the impellar had come off inside the pump assembly there will be a scary amount of grinding going on. There are no and never was a dual overhead cam offered in these engines in a Ranger/B2300. There are all single overhead cam engines.

I have changed quite a few of these and if a rebuilt pump has ever been put on it,there is a possibility that the impeller on the pump(inside the engine where you cant see) has fallen off the shaft. This will stop the circulation of coolant through the cooling system.A partially plugged radiator core will do this too.Even though you had it back flushed,it may still be obstructed and need replacement.
If you have the DOHC 2.3L, that sensor actually controls a solenoid that opens the thermostat. That is controlled by the computer, so somehow it has to be reset or something. Best bet is take it to the dealer, that computer stuff is a mess.
are you losing coolant??
